The aim of this QI project was to increase access to the contraceptive implant for women at Hennepin County’s HCH clinic. This practice change offered same day insertion of the contraceptive implant in a shelter-based HCH clinic rather than referring women to an off-site clinic. After the practice change, there was a statistically significant increase in contraceptive implant insertions from 14 % (2/14) to 80% (20/25). By offering same day insertion of the contraceptive implant in this HCH clinic, access to the implant was improved and the implant insertion rate significantly increased.
