Health Literacy and FQHCs: Enhancing Clinic Access by Reducing Barriers to Low Health Literacy Patients

This presentation will offer an overview of health literacy, including the impact that low health literacy has on clinic access, individual health outcomes, and health disparities at the population level. It will also describe the ways in which Old Town Clinic (a FQHC in Portland, Oregon) is working to minimize barriers and increase patient access through the application of health literacy principles (including universal precautions) throughout the clinic.
